2011 Community Iftar Guidelines

We recommend 5 parties for each Iftar.

The Guidelines for the Iftar Hosts are as follows – please read carefully:

(a)    Each group shall appoint two Captains (a brother and a sister)  with whom the BOD and Ramadan Committee shall communicate.

(b)   Food shall be prepared for 200+ guests.

(c)    IALFM shall arrange water and dates for breaking fast, plates, spoons/forks, napkins, small water bottles, tea supplies (cups, sugar, milk, tea bags), chafing fuel & dishes, to-go boxes and curry containers. Hosts parties will pay $150 (total for each iftar – 5 families) to IALFM to cover the cost of these supplies.

(d)   Iftar Operation shall have 3 components:

(i)      Food Preparation: Hosts are responsible for ice (20 bags of 10 lb each), drinks (for iftar and later) and main dinner. Breaking of the fast will be with dates, water and drinks. Any snacks should be served with dinner, NOT at Iftar time. Please avoid spicy food so as to accommodate all ethnic backgrounds.

(ii)    Food Distribution – Sisters shall be served in the North side. Brothers shall be served on the South side. Ramadan Committee shall assign volunteers to serve on both sides. Host members’ presence is required for assistance.

(iii)   Cleanup – Hosts are responsible, Ramadan Committee shall assist as needed.

(e)   Food shall exclusively be served and consumed outside. The only exception is seniors.

(f)     Guests shall be served before Hosts and serving volunteers.

(g)    To-go boxes shall not be brought out until Guests, Hosts and Volunteers have been served at least once. No food shall be left in the Masjid. Hosts shall be responsible for distribution of leftovers.

(h)   In case of a change in plan, Ramadan Committee shall layout alternatives.

(i)    Host Captains shall be provided with a check list with the following Items:

  • Agree to the Guidelines set by the Ramadan Committee.
  • Assign a point of contact.
  • Arrive 75 minutes before Iftar time so that you can layout the tables and food.
